We went on an off-road tour from Misty Mountains 4WD This was one of the best parts of our trip. We were picked up at Windradyne and taken to areas of the park we would have never seen. We had the owner of the company as our guide, and Ken was full of information about the area and told non-stop hilarious stories. Ken took us to some Aboriginal sites to enjoy as well as the bush country.

He talked non-stop with local info and stories   They pick you up at your doorstep and whisk you away   This was the clearest picture of the valley yet. ironic, as it was the worst day of the fire   Ken took us up to view the area befere we went four wheeling                   Time to go off-roading!                 Ken teaches off-road techniques to the park rangers as well as being a tour guide       A wombat burrow                     We are now balancing on two opposite wheels as we rock climb up the hill                                                                                 An Aboriginal 'shelter tree'. They hollow out the tree, and smoke it from the inside to 'cure' it, and then use it to hunker down in bad weather               A tree hit by a lightning strike     Driving towards the 'Lost City'   We have ridden around the fire, and are now on the other side of the valley. Most of the paved roads are closed in the area               The 'Lost City'. Aborignal people lived here 4000 years previous                           An old coal mine shaft               I want a truck that needs a snorkle!   The civilized part of our tour, a spot of tea   Each tour includes snacks, so Ken set us up for tea and pastry about 1/2 way into our tour   A termite mound                     Another Aboriginal shelter, this time a cave                   Time to go home   and by this time, the fire is massive                   Over 450 firefighters 4 helicopters, and some planes were fighting the fire   With the drought, it was really tough. They had to use chemicals rather than water and it is not as efficient                     On our way back, Ken showed us a farm with a horse and his buddy, an Emu           The two are always together   And they totally ignored the fire as well
